The president of Southern Illinois University says the school's three campuses could see a "wholesale ending of programs." That is if the school suffers the $40 million cut next year proposed under Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner's 2017 fiscal year budget plan.
SIU President Randy Dunn says chunks of operations will "start to disappear if this budget proposal isn't moderated."
Rauner's budget address Wednesday didn't include any mention of higher education or the nearly $400 million yet to be appropriated this year in grants to low-income students.
The state's public colleges and universities have gone about eight months without an appropriation from the state.
