CHICAGO (AP) - Researchers at the University of Illinois-Chicago plan to spend three years studying the experiences of young black men who survive violence.
The university said in a news release Thursday that it plans to interview black men between the ages of 18 and 24 directly affected by violence. The aim is to document the physical, emotional and financial toll taken on them but also to learn about how they cope with those problems.
The study's results will be used to help the U.S Department of Justice respond to victims of violence.
The university says it will pay for the work with a three-year, $1.5 million grant from the Justice Department's National Institute of Justice.
