Man accused of threatening university released

A 21-year-old charged with posting threats to kill white students or staff members at the University of Chicago who was motivated by the police shooting of a black teenager is out of jail.

A federal judge agreed to put Jabari Dean under house arrest in the custody of his mother. The engineering student will be allowed to attend classes at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Release conditions include Dean staying off the Internet.

His mother expressed concern about her son's job prospects because of the arrest.

Dean was arrested Monday. Authorities say Dean, who is black, posted the threat after prosecutors charged Officer Jason Van Dyke with first-degree murder in Laquan McDonald's death and released the video of the shooting.

The University of Chicago closed Monday after learning of the threat.
