Prosecutors ask Chicago police to release video of shot teen

Illinois's attorney general is asking Chicago police to release video that allegedly shows an officer shooting a black teenager 16 times.

The Attorney General's Office sent a letter to the Chicago Police Department. The letter says the Department failed to show that releasing the dashboard-camera video would interfere with an ongoing investigation into the October 2014 death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.

Police have confirmed that McDonald, who was armed with a knife, was shot 16 times.  The letter comes a day before a judge is expected to decide whether to publicly release the video.

McDonald's mother says she doesn't want it released, fearing it could incite violence.  City Council members agreed to pay McDonald's family $5 million after a city attorney who saw the video advised them to do so.
