4 Peoria police officers on leave pending outcome of investigation into shooting that left man dead

Yellow police tape stretches across a blurry crime scene. It says "Police Line Do Not Cross." The text "WCBU Police and Fire" lays on top of that photo.

Four Peoria police officers are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into a shooting Sunday that left one man dead.

The shooting happened shortly before 1 p.m. in the afternoon in the 1800 block of West Sherman. Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria says when police went to serve a warrant for an order of protection violation, 46-year-old Donald Wilson fled into a garage, started a fire, and started swinging a shovel at officers.

The chief says two officers used Tasers, and one shot his gun.

The Illinois State Police is leading the investigation, as is standard with any investigation into shootings involving law enforcement officials.
