Chicago's City Council will vote next week on plans for a lakefront museum that will be financed by filmmaker George Lucas. The "Star Wars" director is planning a 300-thousand-square-foot facility along Lake Michigan.
A zoning committee recommended approval of the proposed museum yesterday. A city spokeswoman says the vote is scheduled for next week. Construction could start next spring with the museum operating as early as 2019.
The nonprofit Friends of the Parks has sued the park district, arguing the museum isn't in residents' bests interests and will violate the public trust because it'll be built on reclaimed land that was once Lake Michigan.
