Funeral begins of Illinois officer shot dead last week

Hundreds of law enforcement officers are attending the funeral of a suburban Chicago police officer who was fatally shot last week.

Friends and family of Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz attended the service at a high school in Antioch, his nearby hometown.

Gliniewicz, a married father of four sons, was a 30-year veteran of the police department. His wife, Mel, wore a police badge on a necklace during the service.

The coffin was draped in an American flag. Attendees included Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner.

52-year-old Gliniewicz was shot Tuesday while chasing three suspicious men on foot in a marshy area of the lakeside community, about 45 miles northwest of Chicago. Police are still searching for suspects.
