Provost leaves University of Illinois

The University of Illinois' Urbana campus is losing yet another top administrator. Provost Ilesanmi Adesida announced Monday that he's stepping down after three years on the job.

Adesida's resignation comes two weeks after former campus chancellor Phyllis Wise abruptly resigned the day before the school released thousands of her private emails.  The released documents reveal Wise and Adesida communicated extensively over personal email, in an effort to skirt Freedom of Information law.

Wise's temporary replacement, Barb Wilson, said earlier this month that the provost is key to faculty recruitment and retention.

"I know how hard it is to recruit stars here. And we can do it, and we do it all the time but it's a constant piece of work. It's the provost and the deans that are doing that primarily."

The U of I is launching nationwide searches for both the provost and the chancellor, who will both take tenured faculty jobs at the school.
