Dozens of protesters have been escorted from the Illinois House gallery during protests over proposed state budget cuts to social service programs.
Secretary of State spokesman Henry Haupt says none of the people who chanted, sang and held banners inside the chamber Wednesday were arrested.
Hundreds of protesters flooded the Illinois Capitol to express their concerns about Gov. Bruce Rauner's proposed reductions to various state programs and services. They say the cuts would severely affect low-income Illinois families.
The Republican governor's proposed budget would cut roughly $1.5 billion from Medicaid during the fiscal year starting in July. He's also suggested eliminating scholarships and job training for older foster children but wants early childhood and K-12 school funding increased.
The Legislature is required to approve a budget by May 31.
