Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says he’ll do what he can to help Rahm Emanuel stay Chicago’s mayor.
White co-chairs Emanuel’s re-election campaign - and has a large political organization in the city’s African-American community. White says voters should not be concerned about Emanuel’s abrasive style.
"Because he’s a little tough in his approach does not necessarily mean that you should not support him. You have to look at the bottom line. The bottom line is he’s functioning in the best interest of the people of Chicago."
White says he’ll be taking Emanuel to African-American churches ahead of the April 7th run-off election against Cook County Commissioner Chuy Garcia.
Garcia has argued his campaign reflects Chicago’s neighborhoods - and that Emanuel is out of touch with the average person.
