For Illinois residents, autumn means falling leaves, changing temperatures and pumpkins.
Representative Keith Sommer wants to shine a brighter spotlight on the star of many fall festivals by making pumpkins the official state pie of Illinois.
"There's probably no community in the state where you don't drive down a road in the fall and see someone selling pumpkins or selling products made from pumpkins."
Sommer is a Republican from Morton, the self-proclaimed pumpkin capital of the world. According to the University of Illinois, 90% of pumpkins grown in the United States are raised in Illinois.
