Quinn responds to air traffic control fire

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says state police are helping investigate what happened at an air traffic control center in Chicago’s western suburbs today. Authorities say a fire at the facility was deliberately set by a contract employee.

That suspect was found with self-inflicted knife wounds and burns.  Quinn says flammable liquid was put on communications equipment, but authorities need to further look into the incident to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.

“I think we’re going to have to investigate first and figure out the nature of the damage and obviously a deranged individual who was seeking to do great harm and we want to protect everyone from any kind of wrongdoing like that.”

Authorities have not released a motive for the fire, but they have ruled out ties to terrorist groups.
