Michael Brown Jr. to be laid to rest

After days of protests over his killing by a Ferguson police office, Michael Brown Jr. will be laid to rest Monday. IPR's Stephanie Lecci has more.

The day before his funeral, Michael Brown's alma mater Normandy High School flew flags at half-mast.

Meanwhile, Sunday services went on as usual at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church - where the 18-year-old's funeral will be held Monday. The main church can seat up to 2500 mourners - plus it has additional seating with closed circuit television.

St. Louis resident Annetta Brown, no relation, says she knows Brown's father and plans to pay her respects.

"I know it's going to take time to heal MB and Lesley and the rest of the family as a whole, but if we as a people continue to fight for justice and become one, it'll let them know that we're on their side."

Brown will be buried later Monday at St. Stephen's Cemetery.

Stephanie joined WUWM in September 2008 as the Coordinating Producer of the locally produced weekday magazine program Lake Effect.
