The Tri-County area continues to perform well with COVID-19 vaccinations as cases keep mounting.

Local public health officials on Wednesday reported 323 new coronavirus infections and 142 additional active cases across the region, as well as one more death.

Meanwhile, the latest figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) show the Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties collectively added 3,853 shots in the past day.

That brings the area to 213,068 total shots in arms, while an increase of 2,279 residents becoming fully vaccinated pushed that total to 91,773.  The region's combined figure of 26.12% percent of the population is higher than 81 of the state's 102 counties.

The Tri-County’s latest victim linked to the pandemic is a Tazewell County man in his 80s. The region’s death toll over the past 13 months is now 616 and the total case count stands at 40,711.

The three counties have 2,433 residents isolating at home, while area hospitals report 156 patients admitted for COVID-19 -- with 43 in intensive care units.

Upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics in Tazewell and Woodford counties are making some changes with the Johnson & Johnson single-dose product on pause.

The Illinois National Guard’s Rapid Response clinic Thursday at Veterans Memorial Ice Arena in Pekin will have the Pfizer vaccine, while Friday's National Guard clinic at the Case New Holland site in Goodfield will be administering the Moderna vaccine.

The Pekin event runs from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and the Goodfield clinic goes from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Both clinics are available for anyone who lives or works in the Tri-County. Appointment registration is available through each county health department’s website.

The Peoria County vaccine clinics at Heddington Oaks will continue to use the Moderna vaccine.

Peoria County saw a 16.9% positivity rate on test samples from Saturday and Sunday. The county’s rolling seven-day positivity is 12.6%, while Tazewell checks in at 11.1% and Woodford at 9%. All three counties are still at a COVID-19 warning level.

The IDPH reported 3,536 new cases since Tuesday and 31 more deaths, bringing the state’s totals since the start of the pandemic to 1.29 million illnesses and 21,570 fatalities. Illinois as a whole has logged 7.48 million injections, and 23.8% of the state's population is fully vaccinated.
