OSF HealthCare is acquiring a majority ownership stake in Peoria's Kindred Hospital.
Kindred Hospital provides rehabilitation and long-term acute care hospital services for Central Illinois.
OSF and Kindred Healthcare, based in Louisville, Ky., announced the partnership Tuesday.
“Partnering with OSF HealthCare will enable us to best meet the needs of patients in the Peoria community,” Jason Zachariah, Kindred’s president and COO, said in a news release.
“We have long respected OSF and are excited to collaborate with them to deliver quality care focused on improving the quality of life for the hospital’s LTAC and rehabilitation patients.”
OSF plans to introduce a new acute inpatient rehabilitation unit for those who've suffered a stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, or other conditions with long-term impacts.
“We have had a long-standing relationship with Kindred Healthcare. This will allow us to fill a great need in central Illinois by expanding long-term acute care and rehabilitation services for our patients,” said Bob Anderson, president of OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center.
“Ultimately, it’s about bringing the best options to those who come to us for care which, in turn, will lessen the impact on other parts of our health care Ministry.”
Kindred Hospital will be renamed and run as a Catholic health care facility under the OSF HealthCare umbrella by September 2022, pending regulatory approval.
