A Peoria man who was shot Monday night while driving on North Knoxville Avenue has died.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says 33-year-old Robert Gilliam Jr. died from his injuries shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. An autopsy is pending.

According to Peoria Police officer Amy Dotson, Gilliam was the sole occupant of a vehicle that went off the road in the 2700 block of North Knoxville after reports of multiple shots fired in the area around 9:30 p.m.

Gilliam had suffered a probable gunshot wound and received emergency medical care before being transported to the hospital.

The incident is under investigation by Peoria police and the coroner's office. This is Peoria's 10th recorded homicide of 2020.
