Staff with the Champaign branch of the Community Health Partnership of Illinois have been running outdoor mobile clinics offering free COVID-19 testing and health risk assessments for migrant workers.

A new federally-qualified health center will offer free drive-thru COVID-19 testing to rural Peoria County residents Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Community Health Partnership of Illinois is officially opening a Princeville clinic next month, but rolling out COVID-19 testing services a little early.

The organization already operates clinics geared toward the needs underserved populations, including migrant and seasonal farm workers in Kankakee, Mendota, Aurora, Champaign, and Harvard.

Beth Whelan is the operations manager for Princeville and several other clinics.

"There is an unfilled need. Because a lot of migrant workers come into this area, into the Princeville area, and around," she said.

The Community Health Partnership of Illinois receives federal funding to serve those specific vulnerable populations, but the doors will be open to all area community members.

"We will be servicing all of the migrant and seasonal farm workers that come into this area," Whelan said. "But again, we're open to the full community. So it is services for everyone."

Whelan said health insurance isn't required for COVID-19 testing, or the broader array of services soon rolling out.

"When you come to us, if there's no other care source or no insurance, then we will flag-fee according to your family size and your income," she said. "So we're able to help a lot of people who don't have a lot of other services available to them."

Call 309-369-5089 to make an appointment for COVID-19 testing at the Princeville clinic. It's located at the corner of Rt. 91 and West Main Street in Princeville. Testing is available Tuesday from 2-6 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
