Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties had 59 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Monday afternoon. At least 2 of those cases are healthcare workers. That's according to Peoria City/County Health Department administrator Monica Hendrickson. "In the Tri-County area, I believe we have had some healthcare workers who have tested positive. And they are currently, I believe one is in recovery and the other one is home in isolation," she said.
Hendrickson couldn't immediately answer if either worked at a major local hospital. She said their co-workers and others identified through contact tracing are self-monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms, or in some cases, under quarantine. That's standard procedure for all who come into contact with a positive COVID-19 patient, not just healthcare workers.
The Tri-County region also reported a Tazewell County man in his 80s died of COVID-19 complications, bringing the region's total deaths to 4. Unlike two other reported Tazewell County deaths, the man wasn't a resident of an assisted living facility.
There are currently 22 ICU beds in use by a COVID-linked case. Sixteen are patients under investigation, and six are confirmed COVID-19 cases. There are an additional 30 non-ICU beds also under use. The Peoria-area hospitals have a total ICU capacity of just over 300 with recent expansions.
