An employee at the Schnucks Peoria store has tested positive for COVID-19.
A corporate spokesperson said an employee at the 4800 N. University store received positive results Tuesday. The employee last worked on Saturday, March 28 and displayed no symptoms at that time.
"The teammate is currently quarantined at home. Our thoughts are with our teammate and we are sending best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. We have a pay plan in place to offer options to teammates based on their specific COVID-19 situations," said the company in a statement.
The store underwent a deep cleaning and was sanitized per Centers for Disease Control guidelines. It remains open for business.
Grocery stores are classified as essential businesses under Gov. J.B. Pritzker's stay-at-home executive order.
Employees in close contact with the employee who tested positive are advised to self-monitor. The company said it has no knowledge of those employees experiencing symptoms.
Customers of the Schnucks store were also notified Wednesday. State and local officials recommend maintaining social distancing and wearing face masks if you must go out in public.
