Creative Commons

A New York man was arrested in Peoria after ramming a Bloomington police car on Wednesday morning.

The Bloomington Police Department said they attempted to arrest 26-year-old David S. Hughes on drug charges when he rammed a squad car blocking the path of the stolen car he was driving. Police said he drove over several signs and damaged other property on his way out of town.

The Illinois State Police spotted Hughes driving west on Interstate 74, but cut off their pursuit.

A few hours later, he was arrested by Peoria police officers.

Hughes faces several charges in McLean County.
