Woodford Deputy Struck By Wrong-Way Driver

Creative Commons

A Woodford County Sheriff's Deputy is OK after their vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 39.

Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword said deputies responded to several 911 calls around 4 a.m. Thursday reporting a driver heading south in the northbound lanes of I-39.

One deputy stopped northbound traffic as the other attempted to find the wrong-way driver. The deputy found the driver near Minonk, and their vehicle was struck head-on by the driver, 69-year-old Stephen C. Vogler of Granville, as the deputy was coming to a stop.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The Illinois State Police are investigating the crash. No citations have been issued.
