Police say a 4-year-old boy was killed in a South Peoria double shooting Monday evening. Jeremiah L. Ward and an unidentified 23-year-old male were found as officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 2800 block of West Ann Street around 5:45 p.m.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Ward died at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center at 6:36 p.m. despite aggressive resuscitation efforts.

Police say the adult victim suffered a non-life-threatening leg wound. He was transported to a Peoria hospital. The ShotSpotter alert indicated 22 rounds were fired in the incident near the Lincoln Terrace apartment complex.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521 or CrimeStoppers anonymously at 309-673-9000.
