Peoria authorities say Saturday’s homicide victim likely died instantly.

32-year-old Kedron L. Murphy of Peoria was found early Saturday in a residential backyard near the area of Marquette and Westmoreland. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Murphy suffered five gunshot wounds throughout his body.

Murphy was found after officers responded to a 5:03 a.m. Shot-Spotter alert in the 2300 block of West Marquette.

Murphy’s murder is the city’s first of the year. The case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the murder is urged to call the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521 or CrimeStoppers anonymously at 309-673-9000.
