Creative Commons

An autopsy is scheduled Monday for the woman found dead along Illinois Route 6 near Peoria Sunday morning.

The unidentified African-American female was found on the northside of the road, just south of the Knoxville Avenue overpass.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:45 a.m. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says an initial exam found no immediate signs of trauma, and no identification was found at the scene. He adds it’s unknown if the woman was walking along Route 6 or if she had been placed there.

The Illinois State Police and the Peoria County Coroner’s office are investigating the case.
