Caterpillar is refreshing the logo on several products. The company unveiled the new “Cat Modern Hex” image Monday.
The design adds a three-dimensional red hexagon and grill pattern to the traditional Caterpillar trademark and product names.
The logo was designed by Caterpillar’s Industrial Design Group. The red hexagon harkens back to the 1925 graphics used to promote the company’s first crawler tractors. Product identity manager Ed Stembridge says the design is a visual reminder of the company’s product quality.
The image or trade dress will appear on the Deerfield-based company’s machines, engines, work tools and generator sets. Packaging for parts and licensed products such as toys will also be updated.
