48-year-old Eric Hollis was arrest Wednesday evening after he surrendered to Peoria Police. Police remained at bay for about three hours before his arrest.
Peoria Police patrol was called to the 1200 block of Frink in the West Bluff neighborhood Wednesday about 2:45 p.m. to do a well-being check on a female in a domestic situation. That turned into a home invasion when the man reportedly kicked in the door of the residence and had a gun.
Peoria Police Spokeswoman Amy Dotson says the woman was able to safely exit the home early on in the matter. But she says police worked to communicate with the man remaining inside until they were able to obtain a search warrant about 6:00 p.m. She says police used what's called a shotgun-breach to break apart the hinges on the door of the residence.
Dotson says no one was shot. Rather she says the loud booms people heard was a special round police fired that essentially dissolved the hinges off the door. She says Hollis complied with officers commands and came out with his hands up at the point he was taken into custody.
At least three police tactical units were on scene. Neighbors were told to shelter inside their homes and traffic was diverted during the incident.
