Rep. LaHood Returns to Washington With Goverment Shutdown Looming

18th District Congressman Darin LaHood is back to work in Washington D.C. Tuesday. The Peoria Republican says he believes Congress cannot let the government shut down.

“There’s way too many ramifications for our country if we do that. And I am optimistic that we will find a solution to keeping the government open and getting a two year budget bill done. That’s what we are focused on right now and I think we will be able to do that.”

LaHood says there is a two year framework to help bring down the $20 trillion dollar debt. But DACA does play a role. But he thinks they are on the path to finding a solution that includes border security.

If lawmakers elect to put another stopgap measure in place, it would be the fourth short-term spending plan since the 2018 fiscal year began October 1st.
