Last Occupants Move from Riverfront Village Platform

The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council are moving.

The agencies that were located on the Riverfront Village Platform are taking up residence at 403 NE Jefferson. The Chamber is moved Tuesday and the EDC moves Wednesday.

Chamber President Jeff Griffin says they had been considering moving into the Warehouse District. But he says they were able to lease a vacant property that has significant historical relevance and offers a great location.

Griffin says it also keeps the Chamber and the EDC on the same campus. The Chamber will occupy the main house and the EDC will be in the carriage house.

The property known as the Judge Jacob Gale House was constructed between 1838 and 1840. It is considered one of the first fine homes constructed in the city and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The groups move makes way for the demolition of the Riverfront Village property, which is expected this winter. That portion of riverfront property is to be maintained as public space.
