Replicas of Christopher Columbus’ ships the Nina and the Pinta are moored on Peoria Riverfront.

The Nina and Pinta arrived about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Nina replica was constructed by hand, without power tools, and is considered the most historically accurate representation of the original that carried Columbus to the New World.

The Pinta replica was recently built in Brazil and is a larger version of the 15th Century sea-going vessel.

The ships are moored at the Riverfront Docks located at the foot of SW Water Street. They’ll remain at that location until early Sept. 25th.

The ships will be open for self-guided tours starting about 11 a.m. Friday. There is a fee to board.

Teachers and organizations can also schedule 30-minute guided tours on the organization's website.
