JB Pritzker Highlights Social Services in Tazewell County

Democratic gubernatorial candidate JB Pritzker made several stops around the state Thurs. One of them was at the Tazewell Community Area Project or TCAP.

It’s a community resource for programs, like Summer Camp and afterschool programs. TCAP was at risk of being eliminated in 2015 under Governor Rauner’s budget proposal, and it managed to hang on in the face of the budget impasse. Pritzker says the group is important to the development and wellbeing of too many area children to see it go away.

“The carrying and decent people who live here in Tazewell County are stepping up for the children of Tazewell County, but the state of Illinois is not. But as Governor I will.”

Pritzker, like Rauner is a venture capitalist. Unlike the governor, Pritzker has a decades-long philanthropic resume that includes expanding early childhood education and growing the school breakfast program.

“I think that having a leader in this state who demonstrates that they genuinely care about the wellbeing of people, whether they are middle class families, people striving to get to the middle class or people who have fallen into the safetynet. That I think will restore faith in our state.”

Pritzker, a venture capitalist and philanthropist, is one five men seeking the Democratic nomination for governor in the March 20th primary next year. The remainder of the field so far includes Daniel Biss, Chris Kennedy, Robert Daiber and Ameya Pawar.
