I.D. Pending on the Male Skull Found in Peoria County

River's Edge Campground

The Peoria County Coroner’s office and Sheriff’s Department are working to identify the adult male skull found in South West Peoria County Monday.

Coroner Jamie Harwood says he was called to identify the human remains at the foot of Washington Street on the Illinois River in Kingston Mines near the River’s Edge camp site.

He says the autopsy determined the skull is that of an adult male and they also know there is a man missing from Glasford. “We don’t know who we have. What we do know is we do have a family who is going to be wondering. Of course, that is where our greatest care and compassion is coming from at this point, so we can be able to make an identification and bring some closure to someone.”

60-year-old Marc Bohanan went miss April 26.

Harwood says the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office worked tirelessly Monday night on collecting evidence. He says they’re also in touch with the family to search out Bohanan’s dental records.

The coroner’s office is also working to make a DNA identification with Dentin from the teeth of the skull. That can take weeks. But Harwood says making an ID by comparing random dental records can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Still Harwood says both the Sheriff’s Department and his office are very sensitive to the fact that a local family is waiting and wanting to know whether this is their missing family member.

Marc Bohanan went missing seven weeks ago. He walks with a cane and would need help getting up in the event of a fall. Bohanan’s family expressed concern for his safety at the time he went missing and feared he may have been injured.

The location of skull turned up less than 10 minutes from Glasford.
