Traffic Alert: Part of Kickapoo Creek Road Closed

Kickapoo Creek Road is closed in Peoria County from Farmington Road to Bartonville.

A train derailment Monday and an unrelated water main break in the same area make the road closure necessary.

About 10 train cars carrying grain derailed Monday evening on the rail line that runs near Kickapoo Creek. Andy Williams with BNSF says seven have already been recovered. A heavy equipment company is working Wednesday to remove the last three cars. But Williams says the rail bed was also damaged by the event and they are also making those repairs.

Kickapoo Creek Road is closed to most safely handle the remaining train car recovery and rail bed repair at the same time the water main repair is happening.

The stretch of Kickapoo from Farmington to Airport Roads will remain closed until at least 6:45 a.m. Thursday. The Airport Road to Bartonville stretch closed for the water main repair opens at 10:00 a.m.
