Smoke Inhalation Killed Easter Fire Victim

The 42 year-old Peoria man killed in the fire at Glen Oak Towers Sunday evening died of smoke inhalation.

The fire started just after 6:30 in Scott Urbanc’s apartment on the 12th floor.

Four people including Urbanc were transported to the hospital for care after the fire. Two sustained minor injuries. But Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Urbanc was unresponsive and not breathing when he was transported to OSF.

Harwood says Urbanc suffered severe burns over nearly 90% of his body. But he says the autopsy showed the cause of death was smoke inhalation.

The coroner says the fire department is still working to determine what room in the apartment Urbanc was in and exactly what caused the fire.
