Peoria saw its first homicide of the new year Monday night.
The name of the deceased male has yet to be identified. The Peoria Police Department says officers responded to reports of a shooting near the 1800 block of North Sheridan Avenue.
The PPD says when officers arrived around 8:00 pm, they found the male victim outside of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the victim was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:36 pm. Coroner Harwood says an autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.
