Peoria Police Offer Drop-off Site for Medicines

Peoria Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are offering people an opportunity to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances as well as over the counter medications for destruction. 

The collection event is from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016, in front lobby of the Peoria Police Department. Saturday is also considered national take-back day. 

 Guidelines for the event are as follows:

- Controlled, non-controlled, and over the counter substances may be collected

- Event is for individuals, patients, and families

- Pharmacies, hospitals, and physicians may NOT drop off excess medications

- Solid dosages (tablets, capsules, etc.) accepted, small pint size bottles of cough syrups
 
accepted if in sealed, original containers

- Illicit substances such as marijuana or heroin are not part of the initiative

- Needles will NOT be accepted

- Inhalers and other compressed air cylinders will NOT be accepted

- Program is anonymous

- Law Enforcement Officer will be present

- Pre-loaded syringes will be accepted if the needle has been removed by the patient

- Veterinary drugs are acceptable

- Rx label does not need to be removed

- Medications belonging to nursing home patients are accepted
