Congressman Darin LaHood kicked-off the first weekday of his Summer break with a business roundtable at the East Peoria Chamber of Commerce. About two-dozen area business leaders participated in the lunch meeting.
LaHood says it’s a good opportunity to check-in with his constituents, and he has a full week of events scheduled in his district. He says people are still under a lot of anxiety and uncertainty about the economy and state budgetary matters and it’s important to hear them first head. “So that I can represent their views in DC, that’s part of what I said when I took this job is staying grounded to the district and not forgetting who you work for and that’s part of what this is here today”
The Republican Congressman says it's better for him to spend the time in his district, instead of the Republican National Convention. “I am the second newest member of congress. I’ve just been there 10-months. I think my time is better served here in central Illinois. I have a young family. I think cleveland thus far is coming off well. I think the selection of Mike Pence is a positive thing. So I’m excited for Pence to be part of that.” LaHood says he’ll be watching the Convention like everyone else.
LaHood will be in Jacksonville Tuesday, has events scheduled in Peoria for Wednesday, and Thursday he’s planning to be in Springfield, Beardstown and Rushville.
