Peoria Police applying for grant to fund four new officers

The City of Peoria is applying for a COPS grant to pay for four new police officers.  The City was awarded funding through the COPS program in 2013.  The new funding would pay about $500,000 to cover the officer expenses during three years.  The City of Peoria would be responsible for the fourth year officer costs.  Peoria Police Chief Jerry Mitchell says the new officers, if approved, would be grouped under the Don’t Shoot program, but could be used for any purpose.
