The Peoria City Council spent six hours discussing long-term policy priorities Thursday. One goal is to help develop business corridors, including along Sterling Avenue. City Councilman Jim Montelongo says he’s met with the general manager of Northwoods Mall to talk about how the city’s role in outdoor upgrades:
“Help you with green areas...do the entrances need to change, are there some properties you need to acquire?”
Montelongo says other possibilities at Northwoods include reducing parking space to free up real-estate and adding a special-tax area to pay for future upgrades. But Montelongo says nothing is final, and the talks are just beginning. He says more talks are needed with the mall’s anchor stores before the upgrade plan gets more specific.
