Holiday Homecoming Event to Showcase Peoria to Returning Natives

Brent Baker, Audrey Kamm, Jake Hamann, and JD Dalfonso

Many young people leave the Peoria area for other cities when they start out on their own. But around Thanksgiving, they head home.

The Greater Peoria Homecoming hopes to show them what they’re missing out on.

“We know that our region punches above its weight class when it comes to affordability, to quality of life. We can compete with anybody," said Brent Baker, the Workforce Development Specialist for the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council. "We want to showcase that to young families and young professionals who could potentially move back to the region and invest their time and talent here.”

The November 29 event at 315 Main Street will feature local startups, community organizations, and samples from local food and drink vendors.

JD Dalfonso is the president and CEO of the Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“So we’re trying to prove, in this brighter light, that Central Illinois is a great place to live, work, start a career, start a business, raise a family. And here it’s going to be front and center for everybody coming out. In a casual fashion," he said.

The homecoming will happen alongside Yule Like Peoria and the annual Santa Claus Parade.
