Peoria restaurant owners weigh-in on food trucks

Some Peoria restaurant owners say they could support allowing food trucks in the downtown, but want the city to take more time in considering the issue:

The Council is set to first take up a food truck ordinance later this month. But some business owners told the city's Downtown Advisory Commission yesterday that the city shouldn't rush into approving the mobile food trucks near bricks-and-mortar locations.  Commission chair Mark Misselhorn says the group supports the concept of food trucks, but more input is needed:

“I don’t think that adding two or four more weeks, or maybe more, to the process is detrimental in the end. In fact I think everyone will be happier.”

Some at the meeting suggested allowing food trucks would hurt the bottom line for existing businesses, while others say food trucks boost competition and will draw more people to the downtown. The council takes up the issue March 24th.
