The City of Peoria formerly honored a well-known former Manual High School basketball coach who died last year. Coach Wayne McClain led Peoria Manual to three consecutive state championships from 1995 to 97. City Councilwoman Denise Moore says the intersection of Lincoln and Griswold Streets near Manual is now Coach Wayne McClain Court:
“Someone like Wayne McClain who stepped up and sacrificed to help young boys become good me. That is something we all need to be proud of.”
McClain also was the boys’ basketball coach at Champaign Central High School and was also a former University of Illinois Assistant Basketball Coach.
