Merging Peoria's elections operations

The consolidation of the Peoria City and County election offices into a county-wide election commission is underway.

The three person Peoria City Election Commission approved an Intergovernmental Agreement with the County and the Chief Judge of the 10th Judicial Circuit. It lays out the administrative transition to a new county-wide office.

But the process is still untested in Illinois. Peoria City Election Commission Executive Director Tom Bride says, “We’ll be the first county-wide commission that has actually brought two jurisdictions together. The only other county one just took over the whole intentie from the county clerk.”

The official transition will happen after the April Election. The city election commission will eventually close it’s doors one day and open the next as the Peoria County Election Commission.
