The Peoria County Election Commission has a new leader ahead of the November general election.
Jessily Joseph was appointed executive director Thursday during a special meeting of the PCEC Board. She fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Elizabeth Gannon earlier this month.
In a news release, Joseph said she’s excited for the opportunity.
“Elections are the basis of our democracy, and the work we do at the Election Commission is so meaningful,” said Joseph, who had been serving as interim executive director since May 12. “I’m grateful to have the board’s support as I step into this role.”
Joseph joined the commission as assistant executive director in 2022, and has overseen processing of mail-in ballots, training election judges and managing the commission’s financial accounts.
Board chairman Jim Manning said Joseph “will do a wonderful job” as executive director.
“She has the support of all of the Commissioners on the Election Board as well as county representatives and party chairmen,” said Manning.
A search for a new assistant executive director is underway.
