East Peoria ‘officially’ approves building inspections department

The East Peoria City Council unanimously approved making its new Buildings and Inspections Department official. Most of the building inspection duties were informally moved from under the City Planning Department more than a year ago. City Planning Director Ty Livingston says the change allows him to work on other projects for the growing city:
“Focus more on economic development, community development planning function. Because economic development is certainly a very competitive area and something that we needed to devote more time to.”
Livingston says that includes focusing on attracting more businesses to the Levee District and residential apartments on the Civic Triangle property. He says the new organization also allows the city to work better with area cities in crafting a joint enterprise zone application with the state.
