Peoria airport earns state award

The Peoria International Airport is getting state recognition for the way it operates. The state Department of Transportation awarded the airport as the ‘Primary Airport of the Year’.  Airport Director Gene Olson says the award was based on multiple projects and procedures at the airport:

 
“The new terminal building that opened in 2011, the two consecutive record years of passenger counts. The fact that we’ve rehabbed a whole bunch of runway pavement and are working on various safety improvements,” Olson says.

 
The ‘primary airport’ award is based on facilities that see more than 10-thousand-passengers board planes each year.  The news comes as the airport is looking to replace FedEx once it shifts operations to the airport in Bloomington.  Other factors for the award include an airport’s promotion of seminars, and work with the Division of Aeronautics
