Concealed Carry trainers are beginning to get licensed. But citizens interested in carrying a concealed weapon have until the first of next year before they can apply.
Illinois residents are supposed to receive notice if they qualify to carry a concealed firearm 90-days after applying. Peoria County State’s Attorney Jerry Brady:
“I think people also need to realize that when they do make that application process that they’re opening themselves up to a rather large-scale background check because there are at least five different areas on inquiry that will occur with the background check. Then they also need to recognize the training that’s necessary before they’re going to be granted a license.”
Brady says people will need to get 16 hours of training to carry a concealed firearm. People will also have to renew their qualifications every five years.
Businesses owners are also being encouraged to begin setting policies for whether their employees and customers will be allowed to carry a gun in the workplace.
