A second Peoria man pleaded guilty Friday to his involvement in an attempted Facebook Marketplace robbery that left one of the alleged robbers dead.
According to Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos, 20-year-old Keshawn Williams pleaded guilty to armed robbery in connection with the January 2024 incident. Williams is one of five people charged in the case. Hoos said the first guilty plea came from 19-year-old Jalyn Branscumb in September 2024. He was sentenced to 22 years.
A sentencing hearing for Williams is scheduled for Aug. 29.
In January 2024, officials said two people came to Peoria for a vehicle purchase organized through Facebook Marketplace. They were instructed to go to an alley in South Peoria where several people attempted to rob them at gunpoint.
Police said one of the purchasers drew a legally-owned firearm and, during an exchange of gunfire, one of the attempted robbers was killed. Police did not charge the purchaser, finding the shooting was in self-defense.
Hoos said investigators used Flock camera images and footage to identify suspects in the case.
Pending cases remain for 28-year-old Sontarrius Williams, 21-year-old Johnathan Williams and 19-year-old Tanarius Kingcade.
