Melissa leads WCBU's marketing, public relations, and development efforts.
Melissa previously served as Public Affairs Project Manager at COUNTRY Financial where she led community relations programming and corporate social responsibility efforts. Prior to that, Melissa provided public relations expertise to clients at Ruder Finn Chicago and Ruder Finn Los Angeles. Throughout her career, Melissa has earned several industry awards including International Association of Business Communicators/Chicago Bronze Quill and Publicity Club of Chicago Silver Trumpet.
Melissa serves the community through participation on the Bloomington-Normal Convention and Visitor’s Bureau board of directors and as a member of the ISU School of Communication Alumni Advisory Board. She is a Leadership McLean County graduate and served on the Bloomington Cultural Commission for five years.
Melissa graduated with honors from the ISU School of Communication. She’s currently pursuing her master’s degree in public service in the Department of Politics and Government at ISU. Melissa is an enthusiastic Redbird and sports fan alongside her son who attends the ISU Lab Schools.

Today NPR, alongside Aspen Public Radio, Colorado Public Radio, and KSUT Public Radio, filed suit to challenge President Trump’s unlawful Executive Order targeting NPR and PBS. They do so to defend our First Amendment rights and the rights of public media stations across the country.

On Thursday night, President Trump signed an executive order titled “Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Biased Media.” The order instructs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to prohibit both direct and indirect federal funding to NPR and PBS.

NPR member stations around the country voted to elect WCBU general manager R.C. McBride to the NPR Board of Directors. McBride will serve a three-year term beginning in November.
