Peoria Players Opens Its Production of "Dreamgirls"

This weekend, Peoria Players is presenting the musical "Dreamgirls." We talk about the production with director Lisa Voyles; and with Ronnie Hudson II, who plays Curtis in the show.

Inspired by Motown groups like The Supremes, "Dreamgirls" tells the story of the "girl group" The Dreams, and how the members of the group are tested by their rise to stardom. Because music is so central to the show, Voyles says, they made the decision to put the band on stage, rather than placing them offstage or in an orchestra pit. The cast also includes a number of performers who are making their first appearances on the Players stage. Hudson talks about why the role of Curtis is a "dream role" for him, and talks about his take on the character.

"Dreamgirls" opens tonight, and continues through Sunday, March 17th at Peoria Players Theatre. The show is part of Players' 100th anniversary season.
