A $3 million state capital grant will allow Illinois Central College to upgrade lab and classroom space used for manufacturing training.
The funding through the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will go toward renovating about 26,000 square feet in ICC’s Agricultural and Industrial Technologies Building.
It’s part of more than $20 million the Pritzker administration has awarded to manufacturing programs at five downstate community colleges.
“Manufacturing has long been part of the strength and identity of our region,” ICC president Jamonica Rolle said in a news release.
“By investing in innovative learning spaces and technology, ICC will prepare students for high-quality careers close to home while ensuring our local employers have the skilled talent they need to grow, innovate and remain competitive.”
The building houses ICC’s industrial electrical, industrial maintenance, and manufacturing engineering technology programs. The upgraded space and added equipment will support advanced technologies such as robotics, and allow for more flexible training.
The renovation work will be completed in phases, with the improved areas expected to be ready for student use by fall 2028.
